Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) has begun mandatory plantation of 20 lakh trees in economic zones. A coordination meeting in this regard has been held at BEZA office in presence of concerned bodies on June 24, 2018.

T K group will sponsor the tree plantation program in economic zones.

Last month Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed BEZA to establish economic zones taking note to environment. She underscored on building water reservoir, embedding Jhau trees and mangrove forest around coastal industrial zones. With a view to implementing this, BEZA is scheduled to plant around 20 lakh trees in all economic zones within 2025. These trees will be planted on roads, embankments and other selected areas. Executive Chairman added that initiatives have been taken to set up two plant museums on 500 acres of land in Mirsarai economic zones and 1000 acres of land in Sonadia economic zone.

“We want to make equal focus on economic development and environment protection. So, planting of trees will be made mandatory for each industrial unit in the economic zone”, BEZA Chairman mentioned.

Representatives from Private Economic Zones and officials from Financial Institutions were present in the meeting.
